How do you typically feel about having am off topic section on your forum?

Do you find that it is typically nessesary to keep some sort of conversation going and keep people posting? Or do you rather have people that are absolutely passionate about the topic and keep anything off topic away from your forum?

I always have a off topic section, since I feel that it gives members a chance to talk about things other than the niche that my forum is based around. Sometimes I like to come up with topics that don't fit video games or the like on my own forum, so I feel that the off topic section is crucial for my forum.

I have an off-topic section just to keep the board from being cluttered with a ton of sections. It's general discussion so basically everything that people can talk about is already in its own section.

I always include it. It strengthens the community and for those who aren't strong with the niche, they can still be a major part of the community and make friends.

I do include it in my forum. I think it's important to have an off topic section so that members can talk on things that are not related to the other posts in the forum.

I do have to say this is the response I was expecting Razz

Any forum I have created in the past has usually consisted of some sort of off-topic section.

99% of forums I have been on have off topic sections to welcome members who may not have knowledge of other niche's to participate.

I feel it's a great way to get to know each other outside of your niche. If it's general discussion, obviously you'll have one, but for specific niche forums it's a great way to venture out a little. I do not see the harm. It'll only fuel more conversation that may be trafficked elsewhere if they do not have anywhere on your forum to voice it. Why not have one is the better question Smile

I do have an off topic section on my forum. It's there so members can take a break from discussing the main niche` on the forum for a minute or two.
